Sunday morning started off with banana pancakes...I know...and yes, the food is a big part of the trip!!! Lol a lovely slow start after a busy few days. And so we started out on a road trip, with Coombs as our destination! We stopped at a look out point, took in the breathtaking views around Brentwood Bay, before stopping off for a mid morning coffee, at Serious Coffee. I had my first Africano ( since I am originally South African...it only made sense! ) hot water, a shot of expression, and steamed milk!! That was a serious coffee alright!
Our trip took us through Ladysmith, which is famous for???...... Pamela Anderson, yup... Which then went on to account for many a hilarious joke, and what the towns statues should look like...anyways, enough said about that!!! Lol
It was the end destination that was the highlight, Coombs, and an incredible market called, " Goats on the Roof" . The markets entire roof is covered in grass, and in warmer weather, the goats can indeed be found grazing on the roof top! The market housed every conceivable homemade variety of foods, to Chinese lanterns, to goat ear headbands, and the rest.... So we wandered the afternoon away, popping into jewelry stores, and a few other shops before we decided it was high time we went for lunch. Cuckoos proved to be an excellent choice, with its homemade pastas, it's picturesque views, from the large windows, all added to a lovely lunch, with really great friends!
We returned home after a thoroughly enjoyable day, caught up on the goings on the rest of the family and while Dawn made dinner, Emily and I made milktart for dessert. Dawn beat Douglas and I at scrabble, again! The "Q" gave her enough points, that I just couldn't make up!!! Next time!!! :)
As so we started our packing the following day, had a restful day, just enjoying everyone's company... Did a couple of esthetic services..lol before we headed off to Vancouver. Had a lovely dinner in Sidney, at their harbour front hotel...before queuing to board the ferry to cross to the Mainland. The trip across was remarkably beautiful, the water was like glass, the mountains silhouetted by the sunset.... I now know why they say, once you've been to BC, you never want to leave. And so it was , that we had to take our leave from our dear friends, who treated us like royalty , and made us feel so welcomed into their home. Thank you Kalbeek family for making our first stop, such a rememberable one! Xxx
